News From Southminster

VBS UPDATE

VBS was a Blast! August 9-12th, about 50 children (cadets!!)joined with a crew of about 30 adults and teen helpers (commanders and cadets) to explore the vast reaches of the Universe of God. And they all had a blast at Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School learning about our wonderful, amazing, magnificent, and awesome God as well as the fun of being in an intergenerational experience with their church!

Thanks to all the people whose work made this possible: The planning team of Katie Homar (also our Starship Commander), Sarah Bristol (our Starship Navigator), Stacie MacIntyre (who also commanded the Cosmic Crafts), and Stephanie Chermak (for that great missions control station too).

The other center commanders were Claire Kohlman in the Good News Galaxy, Jean Barber & Alice Lundstrum at the Rocket Rec, Rhonda Kwiecien at Moons and Tunes, and Kay Yoder and Linda Dimmick at the Astro Bistro. Deb Huber and Edee Rolli steered our preschool little dippers through their days.

Guiding our children to their cosmic locations were Darlene Holmstrom and Carolyn Gillespie with our K-1 space walkers, Dale Morgan with our 2-3 comets, and Mary Lou Schreiber and Caitlyn Pfaffle with our 4-5 astronauts.

And all of this experience was enhanced and made easier by the help of our AWESOME TEEN HELPERS! Ryan Crouse as Galileo, the galactic green gorilla!, Sarah Lichtenberger, Cannon Cooley, Tiffany Crouse, Molly Winters, Erika Carlisle, Nicole Chermak, Anna Koehne, Mira Kwiecien, and Jessica Totsky!!!

Other players at the story center were Dave MacIntyre, Mary Hedgcock, Kevin Koehne, Bruce MacIntyre, John Clausz, and Cannon and Jody Cooley.

And a HUGE THANK YOU TO ROBERTO AND SUSANNE for all of their help in getting VBS going again this year!!.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your caring and love with our Southminster children as they grow in their faith!!

GUATEMALA BRIDGES DAMAGED

We received a message from Paul Johnson and Mike Paddock. Three of the bridges that they (and perhaps you) helped build in Guatemala are extensively damaged due to torrential rains and mudslides. Water systems are also badly damaged. Please read the message and if you are able, please consider making a donation to Guatemala relief. There are also photos attached that show some of the devastation.

HELP REQUESTED IN THE FLOWER BEDS

Any willing gardeners are asked to help rid our flowerbeds of weeds, especially big thistles. Bring your leather gloves, diggers, and weed at your leisure!

NEEDLEWORK PROJECT REQUEST

Wisconsin Lioness Clubs are collecting knitted or crocheted squares to make lap robes/afghans for Children's Hospital in Milwaukee in September. They are asking people to make and donate 12 inch squares, made from 4-ply yarn, any color or pattern, with a tighter border for stability. If you are interested, or have any questions please call me at 262-695-0805 or email me at doris@jamesvalentine.com. Thank you.
