The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) Program is a year-long service opportunity for young adults ages 19–30 to explore God’s call through mission, intentional Christian community, spiritual formation, and vocational discernment. YAVs serve in national and international sites, working alongside local partners in ministries that address the root causes of poverty, injustice, and social inequality. The program encourages a life of service, simplicity, and justice-oriented faithfulness.

Southminster’s Support of YAV Mercer Phlegar

Southminster Presbyterian Church is proud to sponsor and support Mercer Phlegar, a 2025 graduate of Carroll University, as she embarks on a year of service as a Young Adult Volunteer. Mercer’s commitment to living out her faith through compassionate action reflects our values as a congregation. Her participation in the YAV program embodies our mission to nurture young leaders, walk alongside those on the margins, and serve Christ in the world.

We look forward to praying, encouraging, and supporting Mercer throughout her journey.

Meet Mercer!

Hi, my name is Mercer Phlegar. I am 23 and grew up mainly in Georgia, Ohio, and Wisconsin. I recently graduated from Carroll University (WI), where I studied Elementary and Special Education. While at Carroll, I was a varsity lacrosse player and served as a Spiritual Life leadership team member, among other meaningful activities. My experience in college and my lifelong involvement in church have helped me hear strong calls to serve others and to strive to live more fully into my faith, especially by supporting and guiding children. The values of kindness, compassion, family, and faith are deeply important to me, and I look forward to putting these values into action during my YAV year. I am excited about living in Montana over the next year and hope to discern where God is leading me.

Thanks again to you and the church for helping me fundraise during my YAV year!

Sincerely,

Mercer Phlegar
